Students Guide

Here at S&F, student characters will get to experience every aspect of student life at Hogwarts. Join clubs, play quidditch & even participate in classes.

Ever wanted to go to Charms class and be taught Wingardium Levisoa? Or learn how to ride a broom? Well, now you can! Classes may teach what they did in the books, but teachers also have the opportunity to teach you original content as well. We want to give you the full Hogwarts experience, so not only will you get to attend classes but in doing so you will also be earning house points towards winning the House cup.

Attending Classes

Professors will periodically post lessons, most lessons will be for all years & houses but some may have year gates because of the level of magic required. You do not need to attend every single class posted, we completely understand that not everyone has time for that. Just jump into what you want and the subjects you think will be interesting.

Simply attending class will earn you house points but the more you participate and get answers correct the more opportunities you have to earn points for your house. You can also lose house points during class. It’ll all depend on your characters behaviour in class, are they a rebel who doesn’t pay attention or are they a studious know-it-all?

Professors have the opportunity to assign homework after class. Homework is always completely optional. It’s not meant to be hard, again we want this to be a fun addition, not just additional work. However, this is another great way to earn points for your house.

Graduation Requirement

For those interested in a bit more of a ‘true to Hogwarts’ experience, you can request to have a grade or class requirement in order for your character to graduate. To do this, message an admin and we can work out some personal requirements for your character to have. We can set a certain number of classes you must attend as well as set a certain grade per class that your character has to meet.

House Cup Competition

There are several ways you can win points for your house. Professors may award points for good deeds, participating in classes or homework assignments. Keep an eye out for events as they come up too, they might just have opportunities to award points for your house! Simply attending a class (meaning posting in a lesson at least once) will earn your house 10 points.

You can also have points taken away so be on your best behaviour while at school. Being outside of your dorms at night, entering the forbidden forest, certain pranks or rule breaking could just cost you the house cup at the end of the year.

The House Point standings can be found in the top bar of the site below the banner.

Clubs & Quidditch

There’s so much more to being a student at Hogwarts than just the classes! There are a variety of clubs & secret societies that you can sign up for. Some of the clubs are school approved while other may be a secret from the public. If you would like to create your own club, head on over to Suggestions & Lore Submissions and let us know what you’re thinking. A staff member will be in contact with you.

The Wizarding world wouldn’t be the same without Quidditch, and neither would Hogwarts. Students can sign up to be part of their house Quidditch Teams here. During the year we will be hosting games for the quidditch house cup. This will be played through with some table top elements & dice rolls. An in depth guide on how to play will be posted closer to the first game. For now, feel free to sign up and hit the pitch to practice with your team mates.

Prefects & Head Students

Prefects are students that have been given extra responsibilities and authority at Hogwarts. Each year new prefects are chosen from the incoming fifth year students. They receive a letter from the school informing them of their new position, and are also given a badge to wear. Once appointed, Prefects usually continue in the role up until they graduate, unless they are appointed Head Boy or Girl.

Typically one male and one female student from each house is chosen each year. However, we welcome the inclusion of non-binary individuals, as well as transgender students and those who identify otherwise than in accordance with traditional roles. For this reason, we have removed the gendered descriptors from our Prefect Sign-Up List.

Each house/year pairing, should be made up of two students who identify with different genders. For instance, a male/non-binary or male/female pairing would both be possible, whereas a male/male pairing would not.

Prefects have duties which include showing first years to their dormitories, patrolling the castle after curfew, and maintaining order in their common rooms. They are allowed to take points from students (no more than 20 at a time) but cannot take points from another Prefect. They are also given the authority to issue detentions.

Head Students are responsible for organizing prefect rotas, liaising with the Headmaster to represent student opinion, and supervising some detentions. They have all the same powers as Prefects, and are additionally permitted to take points from Prefects.
